Lake Poway - December 16, 2007

These are the first pictures inside Lake Poway since the fire on October 21, 2007. The guard shack at the entrance burned down. We were able to hike around the lake, but the access to Blue Sky and Mount Woodson is closed. The damage is extensive, revealing the terrain that the brush normally obscured.

Yucca Whipplei (Lords Candle), Umbellularia californica (California Bay Laurel),  and Marah oregonus
(Wild Cucumber) are already growing through the burnt crust.

They have sprayed ground cover around the lake, but the rains made a mess of their effort. In one section, it looks like the seeds all slid down to the road from the hillside above. That's where all the new growth is.
