Horseshoeing
Scotch Spice, Dolly, Red,

April 17, 2004 - In the morning, Hope got new Shoes. It rained today and Terry wanted to move her horse which caused a re-shuffling of all the horses. Eventually, Sage, Bandit, Blackjack and Hope were together. Sage and hope really went after each other and I actually thought Hope nailed Sage, but it turned out to be the other way around. She ended up with a cut on the outside of her left rear leg, and an even bigger gash on the inside of that leg in two places. I put salve on the cuts and Hope actually seemed to be lifting her leg to help me do it. These cuts look the same as the one from yesterday.

April 16, 2004 -Lisa noticed a bump in Hope's foot. They thought it might be a bug bite.  Lisa rinsed off the leg and a cut was revealed. With all her fussing, we figured she caught it on a fence board when she was kicking at the guys. As we looked harder, we saw all the lower pegs for the old hot wire, which was probably the culprit. Needless to say, we removed them.

April 15, 2004 - Sage is testing the 'air' while Hope prances back a forth.

April 15, 2004 - I added a 2x6 top rail on the other side of the cross fence, which should prevent Sage from pushing the boards down. There is one section I can't fit a 2x6 in so I will leave the section of pipe fence up.

April 14, 11:30pm - Horse wars. Sage knocked or pushed down the top rail of the corral. I was asleep, then heard the horses 'talking' loudly. The 2x6 was positioned with the nails straight up, so it's a good thing I went out to deal with the problem. I was prepared to put up a 2x6, but at the overhead, there isn't enough room behind the posts to get the board in. So I swung a piece of pipe corral to cover the  opening. I think replacing the cross fence with pipe will be the ultimate solution.

I also, turned off the barn light and the driveway light. They were very quiet the rest of the night. However, the coyotes started up about 2am, and I swear, they were in the corral. I didn't get up, but they were close. So I think over the years, the lights have kept the coyotes a little further away. The rabbits probably know that and that's why they collect on the front yard.

April 13, 2004 - Lisa brought her new mare named Hope to be boarded at the ranch.

March 30, 2004 - My neighbor has a cow, that he is raising for "Beef'.  :-(  He keeps it on the corner of the property at the driveway.
